Michigan basketball rolls over Miami(Ohio),94-67
The trend developing with Michigan basketball has both positive and negative aspects.
on the positive side, the Wolverines are maintaining efficiency in their shooting. They managed to make 58.3% of their attempts from the floor (35out of 60),including an impressive 48.3%(14out of 29)on 3-pointers. Additionally ,nearly all of their points were scored in the paint beyond the arc, or at the free throw line.
The bad new for Michigan basketball is that their general sloppiness appears to be a recurring issue. The Wolverines had double-digit turnovers in less than 15 minutes, accumulated a dozen turnovers by halftime, and ended the game with a total of 18 turnovers. This suggests that their turnover problem is not just an isolated incident but a consistent challenge they need to address.
Despite the turnover issues, it didn’t affect the outcome against the Miami(Ohio)RedHawks, as Dusty May’s Wolverines secured a decisive94-67vicoty. May noted that the team showed a much better effort in the second half, particularly in addressing the turnover problem, The Wolverines used as 23-9 run after halftime to pull away from their opponents. May emphasized that the team is making incremental progress in the right direction, becoming, crisper in their play as they continue to find solutions and remedies for their turnovers.
Although the game ended with a significant margin, it was competitive for a considerable portion of the time. The Wolverines were trailing by three points with less that five minuets remaining in the first half. However, they managed to make their final five shots before halftime-consisting of two dunks, two layups, and a 3-Pointer-contributing to a 17-6run that allowed them to take control of the game.
After halftime, the Wolverines intensified their performance. In the first two minutes, Roddy Gayle Jr. assisted Nimari Burnett for a transition basket, and on the next possession, Burnett returned the favor by finding Gayle for a corner 3-pointer. This sparked an 8-0run,putting Michigan up by 16 points.
Coach Dusty May praised the synergy between Gayle and Burnett, nothing their combined 3-point efficiency (7-for-11) and their ability to complement each other by making simple, effective plays. This teamwork is seen as a key factor for success given the team’s talent.
Four Wolverines scored in double figures:Burnett led with 18 points, followed by Tre Donaldson with 16,L.J.Cason with 11,and Gale with 10.Danny Wolf narrowly missed a double-double,contributing nine points adn nine rebounds.
The Wolverines will next play at home against Tarleton State on Thursday at 8.30 p.m., with the game broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
